Proteins are of essential importance for the body´s cells and muscles. 1 gram of protein provides 4,1 kcal.
 
Proteins do not increase blood sugar levels but too much of them is not healthy as it can contain hidden fats, helps developing gout and can burden the kidneys. Diabetics should reduce their daily protein uptake to a maximum of 10-20% of the energy.
